CENTER FOR ENVERGY AND ENVIRONMENT NEPAL

Ongoing Research Programs

Production of Biomass briquetted fuel based on agro forestry waste as substitute for fuel wood for domestic and industrial sector of Nepal.

This project is funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and coordinated by renewable Nepal Programme of Kathmandu University and SINTEF Energy AS Norway. Renewable Nepal is a programme for supporting research based industrial development in Nepal. In this collaborative research work, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) is the research partner and Mhepi Briquette Udyog (P) Ltd. is the industrial partner. The duration of the project is for three years starting from September 2010 to August 2013. The objectives of the project are as follows:-

1. Improvement of existing rice husk briquetting industry through technological intervention with better screw extruder and die technology.
2. Introduction of new bio-mass raw materials of less abrasive nature and higher heat content.
3. Development of heating and cooking devices for use of briquette fuels.

Other research activities of CEEN includes the design and development of

  • Technical Cooperation in Dissemination of Alternative Energy Fuel (Biobriquettes) for firewood and kerosene
  • Defining Technical Parameters for Quality Assurance of Biomass Briquettes
  • Renewable energy technologies
  •  Appropriate technology for charcoal making.
