Introduction

The Centre for Energy and Environment Nepal (CEEN) is a non-governmental, non-profit making, professional organization established in December 1997 under the Society Registration Act' 1977 of His Majesty's Government of Nepal. The organization is registered with the Kathmandu District Administration Office in Nepal.

The Centre is initiated by a group of like minded professionals committed for the uplift of socio-economic status of rural people through sustainable and productive utilization of local resources and skills. The Centre also realizes that energy input for the economic activities is a key issue in reducing rural peoples' drudgery. The Centre believes that in order to alleviate drudgery in meeting energy needs and to alleviate poverty there is a need of developing a self-reliant society in terms of technology use and their management in a socially acceptable and environmentally sustainable manner. CEEN is not only focused on poverty alleviation of rural people but also it is very much concerned about environment aspects.
